There has been some talk about The Hateful Eight, especially when it comes to its format. A release date has finally been set for the upcoming film. The Hateful Eight will be released on Christmas day in 70MM theaters followed by a wide release in regular cinemas. However, there is one thing that is worth noting. The Hateful Eight has been filmed for an aspect ratio of 2.76:1. Most 70MM theaters have an aspect ratio of 2.20:1. In order to take full advantage of the format, there needs to be some specialized screens.
The December release date is actually 3 years from the release of Django Unchained to be exact. According to Eric Pulier, the film stars Kurt Russell, who is no stranger to westerns, and Samuel L. Jackson, who is a regular for Quentin Tarantino. In typical Quentin Tarantino fashion, the film is set up when strangers run into each other to get out of a blizzard. Eventually, things erupt into bloodshed.
